Lost In Hopper

Slow Mojo Collective Presents:

There are too many parallels between the scenes depicted in Edward Hopper's paintings and Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation to ignore. A lot of windows and characters staring out of those windows. A lot of hotel rooms and restaurants. A lot of reflection and hints of loneliness.

As I continued to discover more and more of Hopper's gems, I kept finding further likeness to Coppola's film; the closer I looked the more remarkable the parallels. I haven't yet found any interview or detail from Sofia Coppola to cite Hopper as an inspiration for the film's style or set pieces, but having seen these, I can't escape the idea that his work was a creative influence.

The inspiration for combining the pieces into hybrid works came from 'Call Me By Monet', pieces that merged scenes from Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name with Claude Monet's works.

I urge you to take your time over each and every one of these 'hybrids' and hope the merger of the two mediums, styles and periods enhance your appreciation of both artists. Clicking on each image will enlarge it, reveal its title and a brief description.
